Supernatural, 4x18, “The Monster at the End of This Book”

Episode Title: The Monster at the End of This Book
Writer: Julie Siege
Director: Mike Rohl
Originally Aired: 04/02/2009
Grade: A-

This was a fun episode, though the idea that the modern version of a “prophet of the Lord” writes his prophecies as cheesy serialized horror novels is a bit… disheartening. Good things it’s all fiction!

The solution to the Lilith problem was rather stupid from a writing perspective, though—it makes Dean look like a moron for telling Lilith what was about to happen so she could conveniently escape. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought they wanted to destroy her? In which case bringing a guardian angel down on her ass would seem like a good first step…

For the record, I’m not even remotely offended by the writers making fun of fangirls. You have to admit it’s a little ridiculous. Also, congratulations to simpatico, a real poster on the SPN boards at TWoP, for getting a shout-out in this episode. Well, sort of—it came off as more of an insult, especially since a lot of what’s she’s had to say has been negative. Still, much of it was also on-the-money, so I think she should be proud to have pissed them off so much.
