Writer: Scott Rosenbaum
Grade: A+
I don’t want to overstate and call this the best episode ever, because I realize that I maybe be biased by the fact that it came so soon after “vs. the Mask.” However, I can say that this is my favorite episode of all time and easily the best episode of the season, for just that reason. What a relief to know this show can still be incredibly, satisfyingly good! Though it’s kind of a bummer that the episode’s writer, Scott Rosenbaum, is now the new showrunner for V… But congrats to Levi on directing his first episode. He certainly picked a great one (or maybe it picked him).
Just when I was reaching my breaking point on missing the Chuck/Morgan friendship, Morgan finds out Chuck’s secret! I quite enjoyed spending so much time with Morgan. I’ve missed the little bearded one, and I was glad that he was so endearing in an episode that featured him heavily. I was also thrilled that Chuck regained his equilibrium by re-connecting with Morgan rather than getting some kind of approval from Sarah.
This was a wonderful episode from start to finish—it flowed perfectly, nothing felt disjointed or confusing, the tone was warm, and it perfectly fused the spy story with the Buy More employees. Jeffster rocking out to CCR didn’t hurt, either.
As for the ending, there’s no way I believe that über-patriot John Casey is working with the Ring, so it must be a misdirect.
