Alaric! I’d forgotten about him from the books. I haven’t decided how I feel about TVAlaric and the actor playing him, but I certainly don’t hate him, and he’s not far from how my teen self pictured him. We’re clearly supposed to think he’s a vampire—the clunky ring, the non-invitation to the Gilbert home—but it seems more likely that a vamp killed his wife and he’s tracked it to Mystic Falls. (My money’s on either Damon or the vamp that turned Logan Fell.)

So Damon wants to bring Katherine back? Emily may have stopped him this time, but I’m sure he’ll succeed by the end of the season, and I’m not looking forward to it. Thus far, Katherine has come off like a cliché manipulative attention whore, and I’m not excited about watching people fall for her bullshit.

Blech at the Stefan/Elena angst. She’s all huffy that he wants to “back off” from her, but she’s the one who dumped him a few episodes ago, and they never officially got back together. This wishy-washiness from both of them is annoying.

Also annoying is Elena’s reason for confiding in Bonnie: “I’m gonna tell her the truth. I can trust her. I need someone to know, someone to talk to—I can’t live in secret.” Wow, that’s not completely self-absorbed or anything. Maybe you should tell Bonnie because she’s no less mature than you are, because she was almost killed by the shit you’re mixed up in, because Bonnie’s own family history is entwined with the Salvatores. Or you could tell her because you need someone to unburden yourself to. Sheesh.

Other Stuff

-Why are the vamps under the church dangerous? According to Stefan and the general show mythology, they’re supposed to be desiccated husks! They should be easy to deal with.

-Matt and Caroline eating junk food together = adorable!
