This episode was… confusing. First Echo’s scrounging for food in a dumpster and asking where to find the money tree, then she’s suddenly in nearly full possession of her faculties, working as a nurse, and trying to boink Paul Ballard. I realize this is probably where Joss said, “Okay, we’re getting cancelled. Let’s pick up the pace so we can tell a complete story.” I can see where he’s coming from, especially given his somewhat rocky TV history, but it was still hard for me to enjoy such a disjointed episode.
How much time did it take for Echo to transition into a relatively functional person? Three weeks? Three months? They’re pretty vague on that point in this episode, though it’s revealed in the following one that she was indeed gone for a whopping three months that we were not privy to. Screw everyone else—I am not cool with missing three months of my precious Topher’s life!
Speaking of Toper, poor Topher, putting his trust in Adelle to prevent Rossum from using his tech. He had no way of knowing she was going to suddenly revert back to Season 1 Adelle! Still, if he didn’t want the tech used, he should have burned the design (since he was apparently incapable of simply not inventing the thing in the first place…).
