My cable glitched right before Topher found out about Echo’s wipes not sticking, and since the episode aired long, long ago, Hulu doesn’t have it up anymore, thus I’m not sure what I missed. It’s interesting that Boyd and Ballard let Topher in on the secret, though because of the cable glitch, I’m not sure whether not they had a choice.
Is there some grand thematic reason why, given the condensed timeline, we had to be subjected to the Ballard/Echo romance and the return of Alpha? I understand that they wanted to do the ensuing storyline with Paul becoming a doll version of himself, and had they been able to draw it out more, it might have been interesting to explore. But they were rushed, and the storyline didn’t have any room to breathe, so it felt like a garbled mess that could have been skipped in favor of slowing down some other storylines. If they didn’t have the time to do it justice, what was the point?
Other Stuff
-The vocal melding where Alpha sounded like Paul was fucking stupid. He absorbed Paul’s personality, not his vocal chords. There’s no way Echo should have a) caught on so quickly, and b) been so emotionally affected, because Alpha can’t suddenly sound just like Paul fucking Ballard! That’s easily one of the dumbest moments I’ve ever seen on this show. Am I taking it too literally? Probably. Doesn’t make it any less stupid.
Quotes
Boyd: “We don’t have much time.”
Topher: “Won’t take me a second to put this together.”
Boyd: “You have to put it together?”
