Mark and Wedeck look like complete idiots (nothing new there) for letting possibly-compromised Simon anywhere near the QED ring. Weren’t they just saying last week that maybe the people breaking into the FBI on April 29th were coming for the ring and not Mark? The ring and Mark’s board are the most valuable things there, so wouldn’t it make sense to deny Simon access to both of them? Granted if they’d done that, everything would have been in a holding pattern, but that’s exactly the problem—if Wedeck and Mark hadn’t been stupid, Simon wouldn’t have been able to steal the QED, and the FBI would never have “found” Simon’s sister. Storylines that hinge on characters being (even more) stupid (than usual) are always bad, and considering that this was written by the author of the novel the series is based on, I can’t say it made me want to read the book.
I wish the writers had been able to introduce Gabriel before the hiatus, because he’s more charismatic and endearing than anyone else on the show. Deconstructing a hamburger has never been so fun! I hope he doesn’t end up dead. On a show with a dearth of charming characters, his death would be easier to put into perspective, but here, it would feel like a waste of a great character. I’m not sure they can afford to lose this guy. He should always be around to pop up in random episodes and cheer us all up.
Ultimately, I was disappointed in this episode because I felt like the Dem/Fiona storyline negated the hard-bought hope from “The Gift.” And how can I not be worried for my precious Demetri?
Other Stuff
-I don’t understand why Fiona from MI6 was in the U.S. at all. She said she was investigating murders perpetrated by the Blue Hand Group, but all the murders she mentioned took place in California, so why was it any of her business?
-I was happy to see Callum Keith Rennie again, if only because I think he’s purty and has a cool name.
