Episode Title: Chuck vs. the Beefcake
Writers: Matthew Miller and Scott Rosenbaum
Director: Patrick R. Norris
Originally Aired: 03/02/2009
Grade: B-

Side note: My cat’s name is Beefcake.

The best part of this episode was Chuck managing to kick the hotel door down like a badass on the second try. Other than that, everyone was annoying.

I’m far past ready for Ellie to shut up and butt out of Chuck’s life. I know he lives with her, but she needs to mind her own business and let him handle his own affairs. I hate seeing Chuck’s only family member (and the only other legitimate female character besides Sarah) relegated to the role of a stereotypical well-meaning nag.

Chuck spying on Sarah twice was pretty rich considering his self-righteous snit to Morgan in "vs. the Best Friend" about not feeling right "spying on another human being."

Cole Barker was not attractive. He was skeevy, and I didn’t think he and Sarah had much chemistry.

Fulcrum agents are willing to commit suicide for what endgame purpose, exactly?

The Chuck/Sarah story was tired. It was a pretty standard scenario for them—Sarah has to be seductive for the sake of the mission, saying things that are mostly for the sake of the cover but apply just enough to Chuck and Sarah’s relationship for Chuck to take them seriously. Hurt feelings and wackiness ensue. Add the fact that Cole Barker was basically Bryce Larkin with fewer strings attached and I was practically yawning.

This show is capable of so much more than this. At least if Chuck and Sarah living together lasts a few episodes, that situation could change their dynamic a bit. God knows they need it.
