Writers: David S. Goyer, Brannon Braga, and Marc Guggenheim
Grade: A-
I think the most important piece of information revealed in this episode is that it seems that Charlie was with Lloyd Simcoe’s son Dylan and the mysterious “D. Gibbons” in her flash-forward, which indicates that either Gibbons was in the house during Olivia’s flash-forward, or Gibbons had abducted the kids and taken them elsewhere, unbeknownst to Olivia either way.
Charlie actually referring to the man as “D. Gibbons” confused the hell out of me, though. Why would the man make himself know to her that way, with the initial only? Why not a first name, or just “Mr. Gibbons”? I also didn’t quite understand Mark’s comment about Charlie “meeting Dylan in the next six months.” I suppose she didn’t technically meet him here, only saw him and became upset, but Olivia’s description of the incident made it sound like Charlie did meet Dylan, so why would Mark say something about Charlie meeting him in the future? And why would Charlie being with this Dylan kid at 10 PM on April 29th not seem a bit strange to Mark?
The scene between Janis and Demitri was also a little odd. It almost seemed like foreshadowing that Janis’s baby-to-be could be Demitri’s, with her telling him how she’s never had the baby urge and him talking about his death. Maybe it was unintentional or a piece of misdirection, but it certainly seemed like something that could be called an anvil on many other shows.
And of course, there’s no proof that the woman in Hong King was telling Demitri the truth about his death. As he said himself, you can’t just take people at their word!
Miscellaneous Stuff
-That opening CGI of Earth in space gave me horrifying Heroes flashnacks. Don’t do that to me, show!
-I loved Olivia’s reaction to Simcoe’s “Very best of luck with the procedure.” She was all, “Hee, that was cu—oh. Shit.”
Quotes
Markham: “You’re spending millions of dollars on hope?”
Wedeck: “Mmmhmm.”
D. Gibbons: “He who foresees calamities suffers them twice over.”
