I was afraid I was going to hate this episode, but I ended up liking it pretty well. I found myself wondering if this was the final version of the succubus episode that gave Sera Gamble so much trouble trying to conceptualize. I was under the impression that it was, so for the first half of the episode, I was really, really irritated. All they could get out of the succubus story was tarty fake-boobied Disney Princess stripper crap? I kept thinking that they should have swapped the succubus’ gender to avoid exactly this sort of sexist and misogynistic bullshit, so I was practically clapping my hands with glee when it became clear the “siren” could bend genders just fine.
And even better, the FBI agent version of the siren was played by Jim Parrack, who plays one of my favorite characters on True Blood, Hoyt Fortenberry. He even brought the hoyay in this episode. Or Hoytyay? In any case, if they ever need to make him a psychotic serial killer over on TB, the actor proved here that he can bring it.
I must say that I saw Bobby having to come save the boys from a mile away. It was obvious that if both brothers became infected—which of course they would, dramatically speaking—someone else would have to come to the rescue, and Bobby was the one who had the proper information to do so.
Sam and Dean are so obviously NOT okay with each other at the end of this episode. I admit I miss them having each other’s backs, but they’ve always kept secrets from each other, and maybe this brotherly tension will go somewhere interesting.
